Solutions magazine was a 32-page magazine published 2-3 times each year, and the goal every time was to build pride while getting eyes on truly varied research that could and did change lives. As the college most directly serving the University's land-grant mission, its initiatives focused on addressing immediate, real-world problems, from food security to eating disorders.
As part of a four person team, I was part of every step of producing each magazine from 2007 to 2017—I pitched magazine topics and stories, and I strategized photo layouts and composition from the first day of planning to direct our staff research photographer. I wrote feature stories for each magazine and design, illustration, layout and print production. Over the years my work on the magazine won 4 awards, including one for writing.
The Winter 2016 issue, titled "The Future is Now," was my team's answer to a question we had witnessed about whether research into how agriculture, insects and animals interact with people's lives could be called cutting-edge. We focused on rockstar faculty and students changing the face of research in their field and educating the next generation to meet environmental and technological challenges that were down the road.
