When the spaces are big and they need some personality.
  • The Center for Irish Music in The Celtic Junction building in St. Paul needed some wayfinding signage and branding while projecting warmth and community. The directory signage is clean and easy to clean with so many small hands in and out of the building. The more distinctive identity pieces, though, needed to radiate the warmth and heritage of the cultural institution. The CIM's logo on the main entry wall is made of wood, to echo the materials of many of the instruments they teach. The larger Junction wayfinding graphics were painted by a community member, based off of illustrations and stencils I provided. And the stained glass image of a celtic stylized phoenix holding the Celtic Junction's wicker cross logo is an illustration I created for them.

  • The Ag-Hort Building at the Minnesota State Fair has one entire wing dedicated to the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences. The first year I worked in the space, we created many banners, but the space was so large and white that it hardly felt like a presence. So in 2009, I worked with the State Fair, and we wrapped a ring of illustrations around the hallway just above head height, highlighting the many research areas of the college. Then, in 2011, I worked with the fair again to add eight large (~8 x 20') wraps of nature images higher up on the towering walls. They remain there to this day.

  • In 2015 we created two memorable installations in that space: 1) The Veggie Cup, a competitive event where fairgoers assembled and raced cars made of vegetables. We built the slide to be easily and quickly assembled, as the space was shared by another event for part of each day. I created signage for the event, along with giveaways like pit passes, branded wheel measuring tapes, and of course Goldy Ears. 2) We built a high tunnel inside the building and brought in plants, turf and trees that demonstrated to fairgoers the various types of species they could grow at their homes, and how to keep them heathy. I created wayfinding and informational signage throughout.

  • So. Many. Banners!

  • I wrapped a van for the Bell Museum's traveling Exploradome educational exhibit. The Exploradome is an inflatable planetarium that could show a variety of astronomy shows to groups and schools. The illustration on the van wrap combined silhouettes of Minnesota animals and landscapes with a star-filled sky that accurately represented the constellations visible in Minnesota in September.
