The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minnesota is a research powerhouse. By pushing the boundaries of biomedical engineering, they are revolutionizing patient care and pioneering cutting-edge medical technologies.
In late 2023 the new head of the department requested help from me and my team to create a department viewbook that could serve as both reputation marketing among his peers and a recruiting piece for graduate students.
While helping him refine the department's messaging and organization, I directed a series of photo shoots to capture the breadth and impact of the life-saving research in the department. We gathered facts and images highlighting the revolutionary history of medical device design at the University—including an original drawing of the first pacemaker—and shot photos of the newest high tech research spaces and rock star researchers.
I printed 5,000 viewbooks for the department, 3,000 of which were mailed to peers, legislators, and alumni. The rest are still used in recruiting efforts for the department and the college. The department's national rankings climbed a spot in 2025.
